Monday Oct 28, 2019
As the lead singer of the band MercyMe, Bart has pretty much done all there is to do in the world of Christian Music a couple of times over, but it was a long road to get there and an even longer one to stay there. Bart walks us through his tumultuous childhood, how finding community in a church family saved his life, and the early lean years for the band. He describes how the band came to be an overnight success, nearly a decade in the making. With success comes new struggles though, and Bart unpacks what it was like to be the hometown band that hit the big time and how that nearly led to him calling it quits with the band 5 years ago, but ultimately it led to planting new roots and making a new start in Nashville, refreshed and renewed with a new passion for spreading the gospel through music than ever before. Bart also talks a lot about how navigating family life has been difficult with the road life keeping him away and how they’ve managed to find a compromise to stay healthy.
